The John Berne School Principal, James Le Huray, invites all Marists to consider supporting the work of this wonderful Marist school, and in particular, the students entrusted into its care, through its Hope Always Appeal 2025.
“We believe that every student deserves a supportive environment where they can truly thrive. As you know, we have a diverse group of students, some of whom face unique challenges. Our staff are deeply committed to understanding each young person’s individual journey and providing the guidance and care they need to succeed.”
The School’s History
Perhaps you don’t know the history of the John Berne School. In 1975, teachers at the Benedict College Auburn, a Catholic school operated by the Marist Brothers, dreamed of an alternative school that was less structured and focused on practical subjects and the gaining of employment. A special class was formed, which eventually developed into an independent part of the main school. Through its various stages and names, the school has always been concerned for the needs of students who struggle to cope in a mainstream school setting.
The Hope Always Appeal
The school’s motto: Hope always, reflects the fundamental belief that ‘intervention in the lives of troubled young people is always worthwhile and is very often successful’.
